Water Vapor

Water vapor is a familiar site to residents of Southwest
Louisiana, even if they donít realize it. Plumes of a cloud-like formation can often be seen wafting through the air. Sometimes itís more noticeable than at other times and people may wonder if itís harmful to the air.

As it turns out, it is harmless water vapor.

Industries use a significant amount of heat and water in the industrial process. Cooling towers are used to cool the hot water that is generated and the water vapor is dissipated into the atmosphere. Temperature, humidity, sunlight and wind affect how quickly the water vapor is absorbed into the air.

Cooling towers are one part of an efficient system of supplying industries with the large amount of water they need for processing.
