Economic Impact

The petrochemical industry in Southwest Louisiana is one of the key pieces in the area’s strong economy. Local industries are the source for approximately 60 percent of all full-time jobs in the area.

Figures from the 2014 economic impact study of local industries show LAIA member companies employed 6,180 people, which generated more than $648 million in direct payroll and benefits.

The data also showed that LAIA member companies spent approximately $993 million on goods and services purchased locally, $555 million on utilities, and over $3 million in philanthropic contributions to local non-profit organizations.

Contractors, vendors and suppliers also play an important role in the industrial economic impact, further multiplying the numbers.
