Paint Recycling
For most homeowners, adding a fresh coat of paint will happen sooner or later. Over time, storage rooms may become filled with several paint cans.. Proper disposal of paint is important, as paint can be a hazardous waste.

Although latex paint is less harmful to the environment than oil-based paint, all types of paint should be disposed of properly.

LAIA offers Paint Recycling once a year, accepting paint cans from area residents, and non-profit groups. This program recycles an average of 1,200 gallons of paint each year.

Consider these paint recycling facts:

  • Latex paint can become a completely new product, processed to become concrete, cement and other additives, or it can be reprocessed into new paint.
  • Oil-based paint can be burned as fuel to produce energy.
  • Paint cans can be recycled or repurposed instead of being sent to landfills for disposal.
