Axiall’s Lake Charles facility transforms products from nature –salt, water and natural gas – into chlorine and caustic soda, which become essential ingredients for a wide variety of products used on a daily basis to enhance and even save lives.   The Westlake facility uses feedstock from the Lake Charles plant to produce vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), which is an important feedstock for making vinyl siding, PVC piping, and other building products.

Axiall ranks as one of North America’s leading PVC resin makers and compounders. The facilities in Southwest Louisiana provide feedstock for various facilities within Axiall and for other companies around the globe.

Axiall formed from the union of two companies, Pittsburg Plate Glass (PPG), owner of the chemical commodities facility in Lake Charles, and Georgia Gulf, owner of the North Plant in Westlake.   Consolidating the two companies allows for greater efficiency and effectiveness in daily operations.

Axiall is a proud to take part in the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).  A commitment to work toward becoming a star facility in the VPP program is a sign of Axiall’s outstanding commitment to exemplary occupational safety and health for employees.

Axiall operates in 40 facilities around the globe with a total of 6,000 employees.  The Lake Charles and Westlake Plants provide about 1,200 jobs in the community.

Axiall employees are active volunteers in the community, supporting various organizations with monetary contributions, fundraising efforts, and volunteer hours.  In 2013, Axiall Lake Charles and Westlake employees contributed over $400,000 and 1,400 volunteer hours to organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society, United Way, and other community projects and fundraisers.
